BOOT, COMBAT, BUCKLE TOP (BUCKLE BOOTS)

This boot, with its integral gaiter, was intended to replace the unpopular M1938 legging. It was first fielded on a division level in the Italian campaign in 1943 but by wars end it still had not fully replaced the old ankle high service shoe and lace up legging combination. The lower portion of the boot is rough side out and unlined. The upper is finished side out and lined with off white or green canvas. The size, manufacturer, and date are stamped on the inside of the leather gaiter by the straps. Some boots were natural russet color while others appear to have a brown painted finish. Dubbing the boots caused them to darken significantly

There are several good reproduction boots on the market. You will needto break them in and add dubbing to properly darken and "weather proof" your boots. There are several options available in the market to seal your boots. Original dubbing can also be found.
